The willow pattern is an iconic design that has made itself at home in cities across the globe. The Travelling Willows are an exploration of cityscapes depicted through the lens of the willow pattern. The illustrations were transformed into plates by Mervyn Gers Ceramics, handmade in Cape Town.

 

Following the plates, the Cape Town Willow serving platter was created.

The unique version of the willow pattern features a detailed panoramic view of Cape Town. The large platter is a versatile server and perfect gift for  special occasions. Production is limited to just 300 platters; each one is editioned on the back. Each platter is truly one of a kind.

Walter Battiss (1906 - 1982) was regarded as one of South Africa's first and most important abstract painters. Known as the creator of the quirky “Fook Island" concept, Battiss was strongly influenced by African art, especially Bushman paintings, which he also studied extensively. Born into an English Methodist family in Somerset East, he became known as the gentle anarchist. His joie de vivre, appreciation of beauty and sensual treatment of the human form earned him recognition across the world, and his paintings and graphics are enjoying renewed interest with contemporary art lovers.
